I call bullshit on any ideas that Hillary had the popular vote over Bernie at this point.

Well, we’ll never know. :/

Actually, we do! Hillary and Donald are the most unpopular candidates in a few decades.

Pew Research is incredibly reliable.

I’m a pretty serious Berner — I am well aware of HRC and DT’s unfavorability, polling, etc.

In all fairness, though, I am not assuming Bernie would have won in a fair fight (which includes independents being allowed to vote in the primaries in all 50 states). I think he would have, but I am not assuming that.

That’s all I meant. :)

I think that’s fair. Bernie makes a good point when he p0ints out that the Bern Revolution significantly impacted the platform.

And the interesting thing is that Bernie is still an Independent. He ran (is running?) on the democratic platform as otherwise he would not not have the coverage by the media necessary to win the presidential election. The DNC needs to do good by their mistakes and nominate Bernie instead of Hillary. It is obvious now that he has the majority support of the american people (particularly the younger generations) and I feel Hillary had damaged her reputation to the point that she is incapable of defeating Trump.

That may be. I’m just wondering what other scandals have yet to emerge. But then the RNC has shown themselves to be little more than a lynch mob of Angry White People. Maybe the Hispanic vote will save us from Trump.

Oh yeah, I knew your point and your feeling the Bern :). I just looove pulling out the survey to the Gawker/Jezebel commenters who say “Bernie lost fair and square! Hillary got the popular vote, stop acting like babies and fall in line”.

Firstly, screw that. If Hillary and her supporters want us to vote for her, resorting to Conservative style insults and then demanding we vote for her isn’t going to work. You don’t achieve party unity by belittling everyone who didn’t support your candidate.

I actually was going to vote for Hillary after Bernie lost. The way I saw it, she got endorsed by Warren, then Bernie, then at least adopted one of his most popular policies. I wasn’t going to be happy about it, but I would have cast my vote to stop Trump.

But then, she hired DWS... And I can’t fathom why. At best, DWS is more incompetent than a Trump staffer. At worst, she committed voter fraud and rigged an election. I can’t cast a vote to support that.

Then second, there are roughly 20,000 emails that can prove that the DNC was altering the election in favour of Hillary. O’Malley never stood a chance, but despite all the crap he had to go through, Bernie did manage to capture 43% of the vote. It’s very plausible that if the DNC were impartial (and not rigging the process), he could have won it.

On the other side, you have the buffoon that is Trump, possible anti-vaxxer/anti-vaxxer panderer Stein, and Johnson, who isn’t going to help the wage gap issue. Like, literally every choice sucks.

My final question comes down to Tim Kaine. Somehow Planned Parenthood and similar organizations rate him 100%. But how? During his time as Governor, he made getting an abortion as hard as he could, he straight up didn’t support the lbgt community, and he has very little marks on civil rights.

Hillary actually has better civil rights, lbgt rights, and women’s rights voting records than he does, yet she’s rated worse. What’s up with that?

I don’t know. I don’t understand any of it.

The DWS situation... the way I’ve had it ‘splained to me by my Washington-insider-type friends (because I am furious about it) is that the position is honorary. It means nothing. Sooooo if they have to work overtime convincing people it means nothing, why bother? (And I know the answer, it’s because they want DWS to keep her Congress seat, but I hate that woman and think she deserves to be disgraced. If Trump wins, it’s DWS’ fault for her complete and utter incompetence, like telling pissed-off independent voters that the Dems didn’t want or need their votes... until now, guess what? They do!)

It’s shit like the DWS situation that really makes me question Hillary’s judgment. And I don’t understand how her supporters are so willing to overlook all her baggage, and now it’s been proven what Bernie supporters were accusing Hillary’s campaign of all along, and yet we are STILL being mocked and shamed.

I agree it’s plausible that Bernie could have won it. I think he would have had a very good chance if he wasn’t facing so much underhanded resistance from the DNC and if independents were allowed to vote across the country. But I’ve been a fan of him since I lived in Vermont, and I’m proud of how well he did.

All that said... thanks for the lovely conversation... but I need a break from all of this. I actually came here for the cars; I can’t handle the pro-Hillary echo chamber that is GT these past few days.

Okay I’d opted out of this thread after a brief side conversation earlier, but I’m back, because to hell with the pro-Hillary echo chamber on my usual kinja haunt.

I’m getting all teary eyed watching Jane and Bernie right now.

Jesus we were on such the right track and it all got blown to shit.

I hear you. I am not pro-Hillary. I’m anti-Hillary. But I’m going to vote for her. Donald Trump needs to lose. Which is a poor excuse.

Yeah, that’s fine, of course. I just wish I could be happy about having a woman president without being upset, angry and resentful of how she got there.

I think she’s very intelligent, which is why it baffles me why she’s done so much dumb shit lately.

Oh well. I’m just going to sit here sadly eating Vermont cheddar.

You’d have eaten the cheddar anyhow. I was born in VT, BTW. My grandmother said I was a twelfth-generation Vermonter.

Maybe it’s because I’m old, but I never saw Bernie as electable. As well, from the beginning of the Trump ascendancy, I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he really would shake things up. But he has shown himself to be so comprehensively racist, misogynistic and puerile , that I have grown to dislike him intensely. I hope the Berners will not do anything to help DT win.

Now, having said all of that, I believe that what I have said is not in the same tone as what we heard from the Republicans in Cleveland a week ago. What we saw there was nothing but vitriolic hatred, and I am not that .

May I ask how old you are? I am 52 and a California public educator.

I agree fully! And You’re very most welcome! :)

I took a break from the election circuit myself...there’s only so much you can take before it literally starts making you consistently depressed.

I actually haven’t been to GT since I got ousted by those playing tag team with GOMI. Honestly though, I’m not surprised...if the existence of the (now dead) GT thread on GOMI and the very existence of The Salad Bowl are any indications, then GT’s present day brand of feminism can get incredibly toxic. And that breaks my heart because I love so many people from GT :(

I hear ya on the “consistently depressed.” My husband just came home from work to find me crying on the couch and watching “Buffy.” I was watching videos of the convention and getting so upset... and I’ve had a rough few days anyway... and a rough year... and I just needed to let some of it go.

(ETA: and Facebook reminded me this morning that it’s the anniversary of losing my car so that was just an extra edge to the day that I didn’t need.)

I’m sort of post-GOMI but have seen it alluded to now and then.

Their forum got nuked so they’ve pretty much stopped messing with people. I get a few burners every now and then, but they seem to have been mostly disbanded.

*hugs* 2016 has been rough for all of us. I myself finally got a new job after getting laid off in May. And my little car has consistently been on the edge of death lately thanks to the lack of monies.
